            Strategic Development Process

WhiteLight Design’s industrial design product development services include a wide range of disciplines, doctorate and masters level education, knowledge and experience.  But the power is in the efficient and effective planning and execution.   Although the process of industrial design and product development may be considered 'creative', it is grounded in many human factors, engineering and analytical methodologies and practices.  WD uses these methodologies and analytical tools to deliver a powerful, multifaceted – streamlined, approach to the product development process entitled the SDP - Strategic Development Process.

The Strategic Development Process uses all the tools of the trade including: market research and analysis, brainstorming, user–product interface, conceptual sketching, color & form studies, 3D photo-realistic - hand drawn, color marker rendering, mock-ups, modelmaking, prototyping, validation and  focus testing.  These processes can be applied concurrently or chronologically.  The key is the application of these skills to your specific development needs, with well defined services and deliverables, at the appropriate level, in order to not over engineer, mismanage or under estimate the human and market environment factors that lead to design success. You only have one chance to make a first impression and limited funds to do it in, so the best approach is to follow a well planned out process, consisting of Milestones and Phase tasks to design, engineer, prototype, test and validate the product design prior to mass production and tooling development.

Strategic Development Process Milestones:
1. Phases 1 - 2 - 3 Conceptual Development & Feasibility Analysis
2. Phases 4 - 5 - 6 Design & Engineering / 3D Development
3. Phases 7 - 8 - 9 Pre-Production Dev. & ProE/CAD - Prototype
4. Phases 10-11-12 Production Development - Tooling & Assembly
5. Post - Production Support – ECO’s, Quality Control
