IDSA  Industrial Designers Society of America (member since 1991)   A U.S. national association of the industrial design profession advancing the quality and positive impact of product design & development, furthering awareness, design quality and responsibility through professional development, promotional events and public education.  IDSA to date has over 3,300 members and 28 chapters.

ICSID   International Council of Societies of Industrial Design

The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (1957) (ICSID) is a group of international organizations committed to industrial design. Today ICSID is a global organization that promotes better design around the world with an estimated 150,000 designers in over 50 countries.

NCID  National Council for Interior Design

The National Council for Interior Design (1972) Qualification serves interior designers who have met the minimum standards for professional practice by passing the NCIDQ Examination, as a universal standard by which to measure the competency of interior designers.

AIA  American Institute of Architects

The American Institute of Architects (1857)(AIA) is a professional organization for architects conducting various activities and programs to support the professional development and enhance its public image, periodically awarding the AIA Gold Medal and the Architecture Firm Award.

CEA  Consumer Electronics Association

The Consumer Electronics Association (1924) (CEA) is the U.S. trade organization for the consumer electronics industry. CEA is the preeminent trade association promoting growth in the $148 billion U.S. consumer technology industry through policy, events, research, promotion and the fostering of business and strategic relationships. The CEA also puts on the annual International CES (Consumer Electronics Show).

CSA   Canadian Standards Association (CSA) is a leader in standards development. CSA is a not-for-profit association composed of representatives from industry. Its mark appears on billions of qualified products sold annually, around the world. Approval by CSA or another recognized national testing laboratory is required by law for many products sold within Canada.   Due to the legal requirement and the cost of standards testing, counterfeit marks are not uncommon.   CSA develops product safety and performance standards including those for electrical and electronic equipment, industrial equipment, compressed gas handling appliances, environmental protection, and construction materials.

IPC  Association Connecting Electronics Industries

The Institute of Printed Circuits (1957) (IPC) is a set of  standardized production requirements of electronic equipment, assemblies and the assembly of electronics, prominent in the electronics industry.

IEEE  Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (1963) (IEEE) is an international standards organization for the advancement of electricity and technology  "scientific and educational, directed toward the advancement of the theory and practice of electrical, electronics, communications and computer engineering and science  It is the leading developer of over 900 active industry standards in a broad range of disciplines, including electric power and energy, biomedical technology and healthcare, information technology, information assurance, telecommunications, consumer electronics, transportation, aerospace, and nanotechnology. IEEE is a major publisher of scientific journals and conferences with more than 360,000 members in 175 countries.

SME   Society of Manufacturing Engineers (member since 1996)

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (1932) (SME)  is internationally recognized by manufacturing practitioners, companies and other organizations as a source for information, education and networking, dedicated to bringing people and information together to advance manufacturing knowledge.   Through membership you have access to technical publications, events, professional development resources and chapter and technical community networking activities, keeping up to date on trends and technologies.  ASME has 200 senior chapters and over 30,000 practitioners.

SME   Society of Plastics Engineers (member since 1998)

The Society of Plastics Engineers (1942) (SPE) is where people from all parts of the industry collaborate around important issues and emerging technologies.  Through membership you have access to continuing education, technical E-seminars, publications, and monthly chapter events, presentations and networking offering professional development, keeping up to date on trends and technologies.

ASME   American Society of Mechanical Engineers

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers(1932) (ASME)  focuses on mechanical engineering. in response to numerous, historic, steam boiler pressure vessel failures, setting codes and standards for mechanical devices. The organization promotes the art, science and practice of mechanical and multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences As of 2006, the ASME has 120,000 members.

IEA   International Ergonomics Association

The International Ergonomics Association or IEA is a federation of forty-two individual ergonomics organizations from around the world. Maintains a directory of educational programs in ergonomics covering 35 countries. Produced guidelines on Core Competencies in Ergonomics. Produced an agreed definition of "Ergonomics" in the year 2000. Is establishing a program of certification for Ergonomics Quality In Design (EQUID).

HFES  Human Factors and Ergonomics Society

The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (1957) includes psychologists, engineers, industrial designers, and scientists, all of whom have a common interest in designing systems, products and equipment to be safe and effective for the people who operate and maintain them.  The society promotes the discovery and exchange of knowledge concerning the characteristics of human beings that are applicable to the design of systems and devices of all kinds.  It furthers serious consideration of knowledge about the assignment of appropriate functions for humans and machines, whether people serve as operators, maintainers, or users in the system, promoting  systematic compatibility in the design of interactive product systems, machines, and environments to ensure their effectiveness, safety, and ease of performance. HFES has 4700 members representing 22 technical groups and numerous local and student chapters.

ADA  -  Americans with Disabilities Act
